INSULATION OF SOCLES
Without the professionally developed thermal protection of the building socle, the thermal insulation effectiveness for the upward walls, floors on the soil, and basement sidewalls decreases significantly.
The application of the moisture and frost resistant, high strength RAVATHERM™ XPS 300 WB closed-cell polystyrene foam thermal insulation provides a lasting and efficient solution, even as a supplement to ventilated façade systems prepared using other thermal insulation materials.
The thermal insulation of the building socle is subjected to intense stresses: soil moisture, precipitation, splashing water, mechanical impacts, humic acids, etc., therefore long-lasting reliable operation can only be ensured by choosing the heat insulating material that meets the requirements. The application of the RAVATHERM XPS 300 WB extruded polystyrene thermal insulation foam provides a lasting and efficient solution, as a result of the beneficial material characteristics:
- closed-cell structure – negligible moisture uptake, frost resistance
- high strength, flexible rigidity – resistance to mechanical impacts
- rough surface – high strength adherence to concrete, mortars and solvent-free adhesives
RAVATHERM XPS 300 WB socle thermal insulation must be lead up to a height of at least 30 cm above the level of the surrounding terrain due to capillary action and splashing moisture.
At the material interface with the heat insulating brick masonry or with thermal insulation made of different materials, EPS, rock wool, etc., as well as with the thermal insulation of the basement sidewall, a tight fastening and accurate fitting must be pursued. The footing thermal insulation can either be applied as a formwork, or it can also be placed post factum. In the latter case, it must be fastened by solvent-free cold bituminous adhesive or cement based adhesive mortar.
For the thermal insulation of large surfaces, additional mechanical mounting is imperative. For surface finishing, a footing plaster prepared from factory-mixed dry mortar, or a low water absorption capability, frost resistant footing casing can be applied with surface reinforcement.
